David Lock Associates (DLA) has submitted an Outline Planning Application to South Cambridgeshire District Council to develop up to 6,500 homes at Waterbeach Barracks and Airfield on behalf of developer Urban&Civic and the Secretary of State for Defence.

The former base of the Royal Engineers comprises nearly 300 hectares of previously developed land only 3 miles from the internationally renowned science and technology parks in Cambridge. The scheme includes up to 6,500 new homes, small medium employment space, new centres, schools, community use and leisure uses, new infrastructure and a network of new green spaces including opening up a 7-hectare lake for public use and recreation.

Acting as the planning consultant, DLA worked closely with Fletcher Priest Architects as master planners and a large multi-disciplinary team including Peter Brett Associates on transport and environmental matters and Bradley Murphy Design on landscape design. Julia Foster, Managing Partner at DLA commented “This is one of the most exciting projects in the Country and will deliver new homes to support the phenomenal jobs growth in Cambridge associated with high technology and bio-medical industries. Urban&Civic are committed to delivering a stunning development on publicly-owned, brownfield land through significant investment and a long-term approach to delivery. We look forward to working closely with the local authorities and other local stakeholders in progressing the application.”
