Work is now underway to bring forward proposals for the northern expansion of Baldock in Hertfordshire. David Lock Associates is engaged, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to under-take master planning and planning on behalf of Urban&Civic (U&C). DLA supported U&C through a successful tender process to be selected by the landowner, Hertfordshire County Council, as master developer for the £500m Baldock North Urban Extension Project.
The development will help to deliver up to 3,300 homes together with commercial uses and associated infrastructure, including new schools and a country park.
Nigel Hugill, Chief Executive of Urban&Civic plc said: “We are thrilled to have been selected by Hertfordshire County Council as preferred development partner at Baldock. An urban extension of regional significance including a new country park, wrapping around a fine historic town with strong rail connections is absolutely what Urban&Civic is set up to deliver. We look forward to working with the County and all local stakeholders to bring forward a fully sustainable landscape encompassing a range of homes, local facilities and high-quality commercial space all linked by a network of footpaths and cycleways which properly integrate with and support the Baldock of today.”
DLA’s Managing Partner Julia Foster said: “We step in to assist on this important project, building upon the successful promotion of the site through the North Hertfordshire District Local Plan, which is nearing adoption. High ambition for the sympathetic and sustainable expansion of Baldock is already clear. We are now able to bring our considerable delivery experience to bear to translate this ambition into reality, on a site that presents huge opportunities for the existing town and a future new community.”
