Cranbrook Town Centre Milestone

Cranbrook, the new East Devon town, lying east of Exeter has reached another hugely significant milestone this January with approval of East Devon District Council’s Cabinet to the design and implementation of its town centre – a much sought after aspiration of the towns 5,000 plus residents.

The agreement is between the New Community Partners, (comprising Hallam Land Management and Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes alongside its partners Henry Davidson Development), Cranbrook Town Council, East Devon District Council and Devon County Council.  It will deliver a comprehensive range of new facilities and services.   The proposals comprise a high street with active high street for the town with food store, individual retail units, Town Council offices, Health and Well Being Centre, County Council multi-service building, nursery, residential units, smaller scale offices and even a leisure centre if the Council’s wish to deliver that.

David Lock Associates, who have been the planners and masterplanners for Cranbrook since its inception (now over 20 years ago) have prepared the illustrative proposals for the town centre that are now signed up to by the parties. The proposals can be visualised through a broad range of media employed by the company’s Communication and Mapping team. The proposals are supported by well over 80% of the towns population. Detailed planning applications are now in preparation.
