Outline planning consent has been granted for 5,350 new homes at Great Haddon in Peterborough.
Great Haddon was allocated as a sustainable urban extension to Peterborough following its identification as one of several sub-regional growth opportunities in the mid 2000s. The subsequent submission, by O&H Properties, of a development concept for the new community prepared by DLA, formed the basis for promoting the area to the City Council for inclusion in the Local Development Framework.
Following the signing of a ‘partitioned’ s106 agreement for each landowner – a legal planning framework thought to be one of the only ones in the country for development of this scale – work on the detailed design of the advance infrastructure, design coding and reserved matters for the first phases of built development is now underway.
Heather Pugh, Planning Partner at DLA, said “The planning consent for Great Haddon represents the culmination of several years of hard work to secure a deliverable and high quality new community for the growing city of Peterborough. We worked with the local Parish Councils and other stakeholders on the masterplanning and transport elements of the proposals to ensure that benefits for local communities are embedded into the design of Great Haddon, but much work has also taken place to ensure that the planning and legal framework for overall scheme design and comprehensively planned development will be realised even though implemented by a number of different landowners.”
