This week former Partner and Chair, Nicholas Freer retires from David Lock Associates (DLA), having joined the company in 1998.
Nick’s long and hugely successful planning career spans more than 35 years. He is known for his ability to navigate complex challenges with dogged commitment, clarity and purpose. He has worked on some of the most significant new communities and strategic projects across the UK, including Cranbrook in Devon and North-West Bicester. His work has helped bring forward large-scale developments that unlock opportunity, deliver homes, and set strong foundations for sustainable growth.
Beyond projects, Nick has been a valued colleague, mentor, and leader. His tenure as Chair from 2019-2023 saw him support the practice through periods of growth, change and challenge. His insight, commitment and ability to bring people together, has left a lasting mark on the business and those who have worked with him.
Reflecting on Nick’s retirement, Managing Director Julia Foster said:
"Nick has contributed enormously to DLA’s success and reputation, helping bring forward significant projects and shape the way we now approach our work and support our team. Quiet but strong leadership, wisdom, and good humour define the man and while he will be greatly missed, his influence will continue long into the future."
As he steps out of the business, we thank Nick wholeheartedly and wish him the very best for a long a fulfilling life after DLA.
