'Effective Delivery of Strategic Sites' Toolkit Shortlisted for RTPI Research Awards 2022

David Lock Associates, with PAS and the LGA, are delighted to have been shortlisted for the RTPI Awards for Research Excellence 2022 in the Planning Practitioner category for ‘Effective Delivery of Strategic Sites: A Toolkit for Planning Authorities’. The delivery of sustainable growth is one of the foremost challenges the planning profession faces and has been for a number of years. In order to ensure sustainable growth is achieved, infrastructure must be provided alongside space for homes and employment opportunities. Achieving meaningful advances in moving towards more sustainable forms of development can be challenging on smaller scale sites, and strategic sites can provide significant opportunities for local authorities to achieve a shift towards delivering growth sustainably. Therefore, the research focusses on questions relating to this growth, and how it can be achieved effectively in a strategic context. The interactive Toolkit is designed to assist local planning authorities and their partners in helping to signpost and overcome key issues associated with planning for and delivering strategic scale development. Using case studies from across the country, it highlights key considerations which shape decision making at each stage of the planning process; illustrates the way in which decisions at the outset can shape future outcomes; and signposts practical measures to help successfully overcome challenges.
