Houlton School has won the award for 'Best Project' at the West Midlands RTPI Awards 2022, following a joint submission from DLA, Urban&Civic and Rugby Borough Council. The achievement follows a recent win for the 'Best use of Heritage' at the 2022 Planning Awards. DLA are delighted that the ambitious scheme has again been recognised by the industry. The project was described by judges as “an interesting and innovative project with tangible benefits and outputs and a great example of reuse of built heritage and partnership working.” Houlton School, which transformed the Grade II listed Rugby Radio Station into a secondary school at the heart of a new community in Houlton, has breathed new life into the building securing its future as a state-of-the-art education facility and was delivered by an innovative partnership with the DfE, Historic England, Transforming Lives Educational Trust (TLET), LocatED, Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council. DLA led the planning of this complex development through a series of enabling works, infrastructure and main works reserved matters, listed building, discharge of condition, S73 and advertisement consent applications, that facilitated the delivery of the school and its opening in September 2021. We're now looking forward to the Houlton School project being considered at the national RTPI Awards in November.
