Planning for the Historic Environment

Our new Heritage brochure showcases DLA’s expertise and long experience in planning for the historic environment. Many of our longstanding projects include retained heritage assets that make a strong and positive contribution to placemaking as well as supporting sustainability as part of development proposals. The booklet provides examples of DLA’s work on a wide range of heritage issues and outlines our approach to help provide effective, imaginative and sympathetic solutions that reinforce and enhance local character, whilst bringing forward new uses and improving the way a place functions. Our skill set ranges from understanding the significance of heritage assets; advising on alterations to individual listed buildings and on proposals that affect the setting of heritage assets, to devising comprehensive masterplans and strategies for sensitive areas, including the identification of appropriate materials and details for public realm. Public engagement and consultation are key to understanding a place ensuring the heritage value of any assets is fully realised.  As highlighted in the booklet we are committed to creating solutions by working with local planning authorities and communities; Historic England and other key stakeholders including the National Amenity Societies, and international organisations such as ICOMOS.
